Gasoline

Does it really matter what gas you use? Absolutely.

Drop for drop, we guarantee the quality of every gallon of gasoline that you purchase. Our gasoline meets all EPA standards and you can fuel with confidence at any of our over 800 locations. We offer a variety of options to meet the needs of your vehicles and equipment. With our quality gasoline guarantee, we’ve got you covered.

Gasoline We offer:

Unleaded 87:

Unleaded 87 is the most common fuel option and contains up to 10% ethanol. We are proud to serve this product at all Kwik Trip and Kwik Star locations that offer fuel.

Unleaded 87 No-Ethanol:

This product is gasoline with no ethanol added. Its preferred use is in recreational vehicles, motorcycles, boats, and outdoor power equipment. This product is available at select locations in Iowa and Wisconsin.

Unleaded 88:

Unleaded 88 has a higher-octane rating along with producing lower emissions than regular Unleaded 87. The 5 percent increase in ethanol from 10%-15% increases the octane rating to 88. The increased ethanol content lowers the cost at the pump. Unleaded 88 is NOT E85 (see Alternative Fuels for E85 information.) Using Unleaded 88 nationwide would help reduce transportation greenhouse gas emission by 39.5 million tons. All gasoline and flex fuel vehicles 2001 and newer can use Unleaded 88. To learn more about Unleaded 88 please visit www.kwiktrip.com/unleaded88.

Unleaded 89:

Unleaded 89 is a mid-grade fuel that contains up to 10% ethanol. Its preferred use is in some vehicles that require gasoline. It meets the higher-octane requirements of some performance vehicles and engines.

Premium 91:

Premium 91 is a clear gasoline with no ethanol added for power equipment and other small carbureted engines. Its best use is in recreational vehicles, motorcycles, boats and outdoor equipment.

  • Preferred use in premium and performance vehicle/engines that require gasoline (Iowa and Wisconsin).
  • Recreational use only (Minnesota)

Premium 92/93:

Preferred use in premium and performance vehicles/engines that require gasoline. Premium 92/93 contains up 10% ethanol. It is designed for supercharging/turbocharging vehicles and high compression engines.

What is ethanol?

Ethanol is a grain alcohol that can be blended with gasoline. Ethanol can be fermented from many sources of starch including corn, wheat, grain, barley, and potatoes. This is a renewable energy resource that is less costly to produce, burns cleaner, and has less emissions than gasoline alone.

What is an octane rating?

An octane rating is a standard measure of the performance of fuel. The higher the octane level, the more com-pression the fuel can withstand before igniting.

Our Diesel

We pride ourselves on being a trusted provider of quality diesel fuel. We offer separate diesel islands at over 350 of our locations for your convenience. This allows you as a professional driver to have the access you need. Our diesel offerings vary based on store location and time of year to keep you protected against cold weather.

Diesel We offer:

Diesel #2:

Diesel #2 is the most common diesel option and offered at all locations that offer diesel.

Diesel #1:

Diesel #1 has a lower gelling temperature than #2 ULSD. It is best used in cold climates as a blend with diesel #2. Diesel #1 also has a higher cetane level. We offer this diesel #1 at Kwik Trip locations in Northern Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Biodiesel Blends:

Biodiesel is derived from agricultural materials. It adds lubricity and acts as a cleaning agent to tank and engine components. Kwik Trip only purchases biodiesel that meets or exceeds the ASTM 6751 standard and BQ-9000 quality protocol. Our locations will be marked at the pump if a biodiesel blend is offered. Blends will be 5%-20% replacement.
To find out blend percentage please locate specific store at www.kwiktrip.com/locator

Premium Diesel:

Our Premium diesel is #2 diesel with a premium additive package. Compared to #2 diesel, our premium offers

  • 2-5 additional cetane points.
  • Fuel injector cleaner and corrosion inhibitor
  • Boosts lubricity
  • Better fuel economy
  • Reduces exhaust emissions

Premium diesel is offered at Kwik Trip and Kwik Star locations that offer more than one diesel product from April to October.

Winterized Diesel:

Starting mid-November, all diesel product offerings will be winterized. Our winterized diesel additive package provides cold flow improver and de-icer that is dependable to keep you going when temperatures drop low.

Winter additive typically

  • Adds 2-5 cetane points
  • Boosts lubricity
  • Can lower the pour point of fuel by 15 degrees
  • Easier cold start performance

All diesel stores will receive winterized product in their #2 diesel tanks. Winterized diesel is offered mid-November into March.

Winterized Premium Blend Diesel:

Starting mid-November, Premium Diesel tanks will contain TUNDRAMAXX diesel. A premium #2 diesel with winter additive PLUS up to 30% #1 diesel for maximum protection against the cold.

Based on temperature, we recommend:

DEF:

DEF is used in motor vehicles that require it typically being diesel trucks, pickups, and SUVs later than 2010. DEF is not a diesel additive. It initiates the breakdown of NOx emissions into harmless nitrogen and water. It is held in a separate tank and never comes in contact with diesel directly. We are happy to offer this product at select Kwik Trip & Kwik Star locations at the pump.

What is Cetane?

Cetane is a measure of a fuel’s ignition quality. A higher cetane means more rapid starts, less smoke, more power, and more mileage.

What is Cloud Point?

The temperature at which wax crystals in the fuel become visible, rendering a cloudy appearance in the fuel.
Typical #2 diesel cloud point is +15°F

What is Pour Point?

The temperature at which diesel fuel becomes so thick it will no longer pour from a container.
Typical #1 diesel pour point is –25°F
Typical #2 diesel pour point is 0°F

What is Cold Flow Plugging Point?

Cold Filter Plugging Point (CFPP) is an indicator of a fuel’s ability to flow at low temperatures.

Our Alternative Fuel

Alternative Fuels We offer:

E-85:

E-85 fuel contains 51%-85% ethanol and the rest gasoline, has been in the marketplace for over two decades. Higher blends of ethanol, such as E85, have higher octane. Ethanol production in the United States creates many jobs and supports all the great farmers. Kwik Trip is proud to support farmers and offer E85 at many of our locations.

Compressed Natural Gas:

Natural Gas is an odorless, nontoxic, gaseous mixture of hydrocarbons – predominantly methane. Because it is a gas, it must be stored in either compressed gaseous or liquified state. In recent years, 80 to 90 percent of the natural gas used in the United States was produced domestically. Historically, the average retail price of natural gas has been lower and more stable than the price of both gasoline and diesel, which makes it a good option for fleets that consume large amount of fuel. Over 20% of Kwik Trip’s fleet runs with CNG tractors. We are proud to offer CNG at 30 locations.
To learn more about Natural gas go to www.afdc.energy.gov or www.ngvc.org.

LNG:

Liquified Natural Gas is super cooled and stored in its liquid phase at -260 Fahrenheit, in specially insulated tanks. We are happy to offer LNG at our alternative fuels island in La Crosse, WI.

Propane:

Dispensed propane is offered at our alternative fuels island in La Crosse, WI. This is meant for propane vehicles only.
